How Dhaka Metro fares are set
The fares were set by the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) under the Metro Rail Act 2015, in a notice dated 8 September 2022 (memo no. 35.02.0000.016.47.001.19-371). DMTCL, which runs the metro, still publishes that notice as its fare list. The rules are simple:
- ৳5 per kilometre, with every fare on the chart a round multiple of ৳10.
- ৳20 minimum for the shortest trips.
- ৳100 maximum, the fare for the full 20 km from Uttara North to Kamalapur. Uttara North to Motijheel is also ৳100.
- Same price both ways. Motijheel to Mirpur 10 costs the same ৳60 as Mirpur 10 to Motijheel.
MRT Pass and Rapid Pass fares
Both rechargeable cards take 10% off every trip, and you skip the ticket queue: you tap in, tap out, and the fare comes off your balance. Here is what each fare costs on a card:
| Ticket fare | ৳20 | ৳30 | ৳40 | ৳50 | ৳60 | ৳70 | ৳80 | ৳90 | ৳100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| With a card | ৳18 | ৳27 | ৳36 | ৳45 | ৳54 | ৳63 | ৳72 | ৳81 | ৳90 |
If you ride most days, a card pays for itself quickly. Our ticket guide compares the MRT Pass and the Rapid Pass and shows how to recharge online.
Discounts and free travel
Senior citizens and passengers with disabilities: 25% off
Since DMTCL’s fare table of 25 May 2026, passengers aged 65 and over and passengers with disabilities pay 25% less, rounded to the nearest ৳5 (a half rounds down, so ৳22.50 becomes ৳20). These tickets are sold only at the ticket office, not by the machines.
| Ticket fare | ৳20 | ৳30 | ৳40 | ৳50 | ৳60 | ৳70 | ৳80 | ৳90 | ৳100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Age 65+ / disability | ৳15 | ৳20 | ৳30 | ৳35 | ৳45 | ৳50 | ৳60 | ৳65 | ৳75 |
Free travel
- Children shorter than 3 feet travel free with a guardian.
- War-wounded freedom fighters get a free ticket at the ticket office by showing their ID card.
Kamalapur fares
Kamalapur is already on the official chart: ৳100 from Uttara North and ৳20 from Motijheel, Secretariat or Dhaka University. But the station is not open yet. The 1.16 km extension from Motijheel is under construction, and The Business Standard reported in October 2026 that it is expected to open in July 2027. See the route map and station list.
Why other fare charts show different numbers
When we compared popular fare charts online in October 2026, one listed different fares for 22 station pairs, for example ৳90 for Uttara North to Shahbag (the official fare is ৳80) and ৳70 for Uttara North to Bijoy Sarani (officially ৳60). Every number on this page was copied from DTCA’s notice, and the chart passes a simple check: each fare appears twice, once in each direction, and the two always match.
